When do newborns poop

Newborns may poop 12 to 24 hours after birth, but it may also vary due to the different constitution of each newborn. Fetal stool belongs to the earliest secretions in the intestines of newborns and is usually composed of amniotic fluid and a variety of substances such as fetal fat and fetal hair. It is mostly black in color, relatively thick and odorless. Fetal stool is already formed in the mother’s body. Some newborns have relatively fast bowel movements or strong metabolism, and usually pass fetal stool in about 12 hours. Some newborns may have weaker bowel movements and may take up to 24 hours to pass stool. If it takes more than 24 hours for the fetus to pass, consider whether there is a problem with the intestines and a thorough examination is needed, followed by appropriate treatment.
