Laryngitis and laryngeal cancer are essentially different diseases. Early stage laryngeal cancer may have symptoms such as throat discomfort, pain and foreign body sensation similar to laryngitis. Pathologic examination after biopsy is needed to clarify whether it is laryngitis or laryngeal cancer. Laryngitis is an inflammatory disease caused by external pathogens infecting the mucous membrane and submucosal tissues of the throat, while laryngeal cancer is a malignant tumor originated from the epithelial cells of the mucous membrane of the throat. Laryngeal cancer, especially early laryngeal cancer, is not easy to be distinguished from laryngitis in terms of symptoms, so it is necessary to observe the condition of the larynx through laryngoscopy. At the same time of laryngoscopy, a small part of tissue is taken from the lesion with the help of laryngoscope, and then a section is made for pathological examination. Pathologic examination can clarify whether the disease is laryngitis or laryngeal cancer. If you have discomfort in the throat and can’t tell whether it is laryngitis or laryngeal cancer, you can go to the hospital in time to avoid delaying the treatment.
