A broken hamstring is not disabling. With the current state of medical care, either a fresh ligament rupture in the foot or an old exercise is completely repairable. A fresh ligament rupture can be repaired in one stage. Old ligament ruptures can be rebuilt or lengthened in phase II. Reconstruction can be done either with an autologous ligament or with an artificial ligament. In either case, the ligament is fully repairable and there is no residual disability after surgery. However, it is important to note that the sooner this type of injury is treated, the better the outcome. Delayed treatment may cause contracture of the ligaments, decreased joint mobility, or long-term pain.
