Ephedra, Eucommia, and Fine Pungent Soup

Ephedra with Pithospermum Fine Sinensis Tang is composed of Ephedra, Pithospermum and Gunner’s Pithosperm. In clinical cases of cold, trigeminal neuralgia, allergic rhinitis and urticaria with fever and fear of cold, which cannot be relieved by adding extra clothes and blankets, and with symptoms such as fatigue and drowsiness and a sluggish pulse, Ephedra with Herba and Bupleurum can be used to treat the symptoms. In this formula, Ephedra has the effect of relieving symptoms by sweating, and Radix et Rhizoma Polygonati can warm the meridian and help Yang to expel the evil Qi, while Fine Pine can help Ephedra to relieve symptoms by sweating, and also assist Radix et Rhizoma Polygonati to warm the meridian and disperse cold. As a basic formula for treating Yang deficiency external wind-cold symptoms, Ma Huang and Fructus Fine Sinensis Tang can be supplemented with other drugs to deal with different conditions. For example, for the treatment of cold patients with Yang deficiency, it can be combined with Huang Qi, Gui Zhi, Qiang Wu and Fang Feng, and for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, it can be combined with Xin Yi, Cang Er Zi, Lian Qiao, Bai Zhi and other drugs. Although Ephedra with seeds and pine soup is a commonly used formula, it is widely used in TCM clinical practice.
