Spleen and kidney yang deficiency is a deficiency of yang qi in the spleen and kidneys and the internal growth of deficiency cold, with prolonged diarrhea and dysentery, edema, and cold pain in the waist and abdomen as the main manifestations of deficiency cold symptoms. Spleen and kidney yang deficiency is mostly caused by prolonged diarrhea and dysentery, in which the spleen yang is damaged and cannot nourish the kidney yang; or the water evil is long entrenched, in which the kidney yang is damaged and cannot warm up the spleen yang, resulting in simultaneous damage to the spleen and kidney yang, and the birth of deficient cold within the spleen and kidneys, and the lack of power to warm up and transform, so that the water and grains are not transformed, and the water and liquids are retained. Symptoms of spleen and kidney yang deficiency include cold pain in the waist, knees and lower abdomen, cold limbs, prolonged diarrhea and dysentery, or diarrhea at five o’clock, undigested grains (more undigested food in the stools), cold stools, or generalized oedema, dysuria (unsmooth urination), pale face (white face with no luster), light and fat tongue, white slippery moss, and slow and weak pulse. Treatment should be warming the spleen and kidney. Patients should go to the hospital in time and use medicines that warm the spleen and kidney, such as Si Shen Wan, for treatment, and should not use medicines without authorization.
