What’s wrong with giant toes?

Macrodactyly is a congenital deformity characterized by an increase in the size of the fingers or toes.
The hypertrophic deformity of macrodactyly is usually caused by neurofibromatosis or by congenital proliferation of lymphoid and adipose tissue. The incidence of congenital malformations of the extremities is very low, approximately 0.9%.
Macrodactyly usually occurs after birth and is seen as a marked enlargement of one or a few fingers, while the other fingers or toes are normal, and not necessarily all fingers or toes are involved.
Regarding the treatment of macrodactyly, corrective surgery alone is not particularly effective. The treatment of congenital giant toes is staged according to the size of the affected area. Soft tissue surgery is suitable for light cases, bone tissue surgery for medium cases, and toe amputation for heavy cases.
It is recommended that patients suffering from giant toe syndrome should be treated under the guidance of doctors in time, early diagnosis and early treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
