Difference between megacolon and constipation

Constipation is a symptom that can be caused by a variety of reasons, including functional constipation and organic constipation. Megacolon is a pathologic intestinal change that can cause constipation and is one of the causes of organic constipation.
The clinical manifestations of ordinary constipation are generally reduced frequency of defecation and constipation. The constipation caused by megacolon is often more serious, manifesting as abdominal distension, constipation, and foul stool (filling incontinence).
Constipation can be caused by many factors, such as dyspepsia, poor diet, lack of exercise and other functional causes, but also by colon and anal diseases, extraintestinal diseases, drugs and other organic causes. Megacolon is caused by narrowing of distal colon, weakening or disappearance of intestinal peristalsis, resulting in feces can not be discharged normally, and accumulates in the proximal colon intestinal tube and causes the proximal colon intestinal tube to become enlarged.
Ordinary constipation can be treated by improving diet, adjusting work and rest, taking oral laxative drugs such as lactulose, polyethylene glycol, etc., while megacolon is mostly treated by surgery.
If constipation occurs, you should go to the hospital to clarify the cause and have appropriate treatment.
