Do newborns need to drink water?

Newborn babies do not need to drink water. If a baby is just born, it is usually allowed to start sucking on the mother’s breast within half an hour after birth to promote milk secretion. If the pregnant mother in 2-3 days after the birth of the temporary no breast milk, can be given to the newborn formula feeding, but do not need to drink water. This is because water cannot replenish the newborn’s energy and cannot meet the newborn’s need for calories. Meanwhile, the newborn’s stomach capacity is relatively small, so if you give the newborn water, it may reduce the newborn’s intake of milk. In addition, newborns are breastfed, so there is enough water in breast milk or formula to meet the newborn’s need for fluids. That’s why newborn babies generally don’t drink water, especially during the neonatal period.
