In the treatment of cancer, two extremes are popular among the general public. One extreme believes that cancer cannot be cured and will die faster if it is cured, so as long as one has cancer, one should grab some good food and wait for death at home; the other extreme believes that the treatment of cancer is to get rid of cancer by all means, as long as it can be cut off, regardless of whether there is metastasis or not; chemotherapy is also to cut off all visible tumors. Chemotherapy is also to wipe out all the cancer, no matter how costly it is. This latter view exists not only among the general public, but also among certain doctors. As the saying goes, “one knife will beat the world” and “chemotherapy will not stop until life is over”. As long as all aspects are allowed, we should respect science, look at it rationally and objectively, and receive proper and regular treatment under the guidance of doctors. 2. Early stage cancer is mainly surgery, but even if the doctor has the ability to cut out the cancer, it is still a waste of time to do so. Do not listen to the beautiful and moving propaganda of X-knife, γ-knife and photon knife, which seem to be the divine knives that can’t handle cancer, leading to abuse and over-treatment; 4. Chemotherapy for advanced cancer is necessary, but not endless. Of course, we should pursue the maximum efficacy, but in fact, most advanced cancers cannot be completely wiped out. At this time, if chemotherapy is carried out to the end, the harm to the body will be greater than the small benefit brought by chemotherapy, which is not worth the loss. To sum up, cancer treatment should be both aggressive and moderate, that is, “moderate treatment”. Treatment should be moderate, and quality of survival is the key. After all, those who choose to avoid treatment when they get cancer are a minority; and the practice of cutting all cancers across the board, regardless of their condition, is also rare. What we need to be wary of is the third approach, because both ordinary people and medical professionals may unconsciously hold the idea of “killing all cancers”, at least subconsciously. Curing cancer is like fighting a war with the enemy, of course, we should eliminate the ghosts as much as possible, which is also the ultimate goal of the war. However, the starting point is good, but whether the goal is necessarily to wipe out all the devils depends on the specific situation. If we have both the physical condition (i.e. good physical ability, body can tolerate chemotherapy and other anti-cancer means) and the economic condition (can be financially supported), and the treatment effect continues to be effective, of course, we should pursue the maximum effect as much as possible, preferably to eliminate all cancers (in fact, the elimination mentioned here only refers to the invisible cancer lesions seen in CT and other imaging examinations, not the real complete elimination. This is just like fighting in a war. If you have a good body, you can continue to fight and have good logistic support, and you can always win the war, of course, you have to take advantage of the victory to eliminate all the ghosts as much as possible. But if the treatment to a certain stage, inevitably the body will get worse and worse, may be poorer and poorer tolerance to chemotherapy, or even if the body can still tolerate treatment, but the treatment effect after reaching a certain level of cancer lesion shrinkage does not last, reaching a plateau, continue treatment, simply do not see the effect, see only toxic side effects, this time to continue treatment, harmful, should consider It is time to stop and take a break. In fact, for incurable advanced cancer, the goal we pursue is to prolong life and improve quality of life as much as possible. Cancer is a chronic disease, treatment should be moderate, not excessive, and too much is too little. Take a long-term view. For cancer patients, they should have the concept of “living with tumor”. Survival with tumor” can be understood very well from the word “tumor”, which means to live with tumor in your body continuously. Cancer cannot be cured, but it can be controlled. In fact, chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes cannot be cured, and to a certain extent, they can be considered as an incurable disease, but as long as they are well managed, they will not affect your survival at all. Therefore, we must have the concept of “cancer is a chronic and controllable disease” and the concept of “living with tumor”. It is the same as fighting a war, we need to talk about strategy and skills, but brute force alone will not work. If we are sure of victory, such as leukemia, certain types of lymphoma, germ cell tumors, etc., we should of course try our best to wipe out the cancer cells in one fell swoop, and it is worth the risk. However, when we cannot eliminate all cancers, for example, for most advanced solid tumors, we should learn to advance and retreat, contract the defense line when necessary, do not go to the front line, as long as the devils do not come to attack, we should also rest and prepare for the future battle. We can borrow Chairman Mao’s war viewpoint “on the protracted war”. Anti-cancer is a protracted war, the right time to attack, the right time to retreat defense, in the stage of strategic stalemate, to learn to save strength, do not spend energy and strength, otherwise when the devils come again, you can only dry anxious, only to admit defeat. If you keep the green hills, you will not be afraid to burn wood. Curing cancer is an art.
