Swollen feet in pregnancy may be caused by normal such as uterine compression, or it may be caused by diseases such as gestational hypertension and perinatal cardiomyopathy.
1. Uterine compression: usually occurs in late pregnancy, because after pregnancy, the fetus grows, the uterus will also increase in size, may compress the inferior vena cava, resulting in venous blood reflux is impeded, thus causing the phenomenon of swollen feet in pregnancy, if it is not accompanied by other discomforts, it is usually normal.
2. Hypertension during pregnancy: it will make the whole body of the pregnant woman’s small blood vessel spasm, vascular endothelium is damaged, the glomerulus will be in the state of dilation, it is easy to cause proteinuria, hypoproteinemia and so on, which will lead to the phenomenon of swollen feet in pregnancy or other parts of the edema.
3. Perinatal cardiomyopathy: refers to the last month of pregnancy to 5 months after delivery to the left ventricular systolic dysfunction of heart failure, and no other causes of heart failure exist. Early manifestations include lower extremity edema, fatigue, and exertional dyspnea, which can cause swollen feet in pregnancy.
