Treatment of varicose veins in Chinese medicine

Varicose veins are treated as “tendon tumor” in Chinese medicine, and there are internal treatment and external treatment. 1. Internal treatment: Damp-heat type, localized redness, burning heat, palpable cord-like swelling, obvious tenderness, it is advisable to clear heat and dampness (to remove damp-heat evil qi), taking castor seed and dampness-expelling soup combined with Wushen Tang plus subtractions. Blood stasis type, the affected area has dark red skin, with cords and hard nodules, painful to touch, and the redness and swelling of the skin subside, it is advisable to activate blood circulation and dispel blood stasis (to promote blood circulation and get rid of blood stasis), and take Taohong Siwu Tang with additional subtractions. Spleen and kidney yang deficiency (deficiency of yang qi in the spleen and kidney), warming the kidney and strengthening the spleen (warming and tonifying the kidney and strengthening the spleen), inducing dampness and clearing collaterals (promoting the discharge of dampness and clearing the meridians and collaterals), taking Right Angelica Pill. 2. External treatment: for the damp-heat type, apply Jin Huang Cream or San Huang Cream externally. For blood stasis type, use herbs that activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis to relax the tendons and activate the collaterals; externally, use blood circulation and pain relief decoction to fumigate the affected limbs. Wearing elastic stockings or tying elastic bandage to control superficial venous hypertension can prevent generation of edema. The Chinese medicine treatment of varicose vein fascioma needs to be under the guidance of doctor’s evidence-based treatment, internal and external combination, and if necessary, surgical treatment, to avoid repeated onset of incomplete treatment.
