Tummy sucking is not a serious form of Tourette’s syndrome, and tummy sucking may just be a matter of habit and has nothing to do with Tourette’s.
Tourette’s syndrome, also known as pediatric Tourette’s syndrome, is characterized by involuntary, sudden, rapid, repetitive, and rhythmic multi-site motor tics in a variety of forms, usually accompanied by involuntary vocalizations and obscenities.
In some cases, the tics are followed by speech and movement disorders, and some children may mimic the speech and behavior of others. The disease can also lead to psychological and behavioral disorders and other complications, with obsessive-compulsive disorder being the most common. Electrophysiologic and neuroimaging tests can be performed to rule out organic brain lesions.
If you suspect Tourette’s syndrome, you should seek medical attention and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment and medication after diagnosis.
