There is no fixed time for regulating cold-dampness trapped spleen, which needs to be decided according to each person’s physique and symptoms, etc. Representative formulas include Pill with Conjugated Zi Lizhong Pill and Solid Spleen Pill. Cold-dampness trapping the spleen is caused by craving for cold and drinking cold, or over-eating fruits and melons, or by cold-dampness intruding into the spleen due to deficiency of spleen yang, affecting the transportation of the spleen. Symptoms include distension and fullness of the epigastrium (abdomen), heaviness and drowsiness of the head, dullness (lack of appetite and reduced food intake), vomiting, light mouth and lack of thirst, loose stools (thin and unformed stools), dysuria (unruly urination), scanty and fishy menstrual discharge in women, grayish-white slippery fur on the tongue, and a slow, sluggish, or moistened pulse. Radix Rehmanniae Pill, with the effect of warming the middle and strengthening the spleen. It is used for coldness in the spleen and stomach (spleen and stomach being weak and cold), causing cold pain in the epigastrium and abdomen (feeling cold pain in the stomach and abdomen), vomiting and diarrhea, and lack of warmth in the hands and feet. Solid Spleen Powder is used for treating yin water caused by yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney (deficiency of yang qi in the spleen and kidney) and internalized water retention. Symptoms include swelling below half of the body, lack of warmth in the hands and feet, lack of thirst in the mouth, fullness in the chest and abdomen, loose stools, white and greasy tongue coating, and sunken stringy and late pulse. This formula is not suitable for those with Yang Shui. If there is any discomfort, prompt medical attention is recommended.
