Recipe for Job’s Tears Soup

Job’s tears soup is formulated with Job’s tears, Cangzhu, Qiangwu, Dugong, Fenghuang, Chuanwu, Ephedra, Gui Zhi, Angelica Sinensis, Ligusticum Chuanxiong, Ginger, and Glycyrrhiza Uralensis. Job’s tears soup is from “类证治裁”, which is effective in dispelling wind and dispersing cold (removing wind and dispelling cold), removing dampness and clearing collaterals. It can be used in the treatment of paralysis (paralysis is a disease characterized by pain, soreness, heaviness, numbness in the tendons, joints and muscles of the limbs, or abnormal function of joint extension and bending, stiffness, enlargement, deformation, and impediment to movement). Paralysis often manifests itself in the joints of the limbs, pain, unfavorable flexion and extension, numbness of the skin, swelling of the joints, heavy limbs, light tongue with white coating, and moist and slow pulse. In this formula, Semen Coicis strengthens the spleen and dispels dampness (by tonifying the spleen to expel dampness); Qiangwu, Duhong, Fenghuang, Chuanwu and Caowu can dispel wind-dampness and relieve paralysis; Angelica sinensis and Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong invigorate blood circulation; Cinnamon twig and Ginger warm the meridians and channels; Atractylodes Macrocephala dries dampness and strengthens the spleen.
