What to do when a child’s fever persists

Children with persistent fever need to choose the appropriate antipyretic method according to the degree of elevated body temperature, such as physical cooling, oral medication, and so on. Fever can usually be divided into infectious fever and non-infectious fever, etc., and drugs are often used to treat the cause of the disease. For children with fever but body temperature <38.5 ℃ can use warm water on the child's forehead, reduce the clothing worn and other physical methods to reduce the temperature, encourage the child to drink more water, some children's body temperature can gradually decline; for children with body temperature ≥38.5 ℃ need to use antipyretic drugs such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and other antipyretic treatments under the guidance of a doctor. If the fever is caused by bacterial infection, you can take cefradine, cefuroxime and other drugs under the guidance of the doctor to carry out anti-infection treatment; if it is caused by fungal infection, you can take fluconazole capsules and other drugs for treatment; if it is influenza virus infection, you can take oseltamivir and other drugs. Non-infectious fever can also cause fever, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, etc., which need to be treated with drugs such as hydroxychloroquine, cyclophosphamide, cyclosporine, etc. as prescribed by the doctor. All of the above medications should be used under doctor's supervision, avoid self-medication. Children with fever are advised to seek prompt medical attention and be evaluated for treatment by a specialist.
