How to treat an abdominal mass

Abdominal masses are treated differently due to different sources, but surgical resection is the best option if it meets the surgical indications. Abdominal mass refers to an abnormal mass that can be palpated during abdominal examination. Common causes of mass include tissue proliferation, cavity organ swelling, organ enlargement, inflammation adhesion and benign or malignant tumors. Once an abdominal mass is detected, it is recommended that an ultrasound examination be performed immediately, and if necessary, a puncture examination be performed to determine the pathologic type of the mass. Both benign and malignant abdominal masses may require surgical resection, because it is difficult to define the nature of the intra-abdominal mass before surgery, and the mass needs to be sent for pathologic examination after resection in order to be clarified. In addition, some benign masses may grow larger or grow very fast in a short period of time, and if they are not operated on, the later growth will increase the difficulty of the operation, and it is also possible that the benign mass will progress into a malignant mass. Therefore, it should be removed as soon as possible to improve the patient’s prognosis.
