Scutellaria baicalensis is a traditional Chinese medicine, the dried root of the plant, Scutellaria baicalensis, family Labiatae. It has the effects of clearing heat and drying dampness, diarrhea and detoxification, stopping bleeding, and tranquilizing the fetus. It is also used to treat summer dampness, chest congestion, dampness-heat, jaundice, dysentery, lung heat, cough, high fever, irritable thirst, blood-heat and vomiting of blood, and restlessness of the fetus. It can also be used to treat carbuncle sores and poison, and to tranquilize the fetus. It can stop bleeding, treating blood fever, vomiting blood, and disintegration. The root of Scutellaria baicalensis, the medicinal part, is a better drug for clearing damp-heat in the upper Jiao. Scutellaria baicalensis can be taken as a decoction, or made into pills, powders or creams.
