What is the definition of visceral crisis in breast cancer

Visceral crisis in breast cancer is a condition in which a patient with breast cancer not only has visceral metastasis, but also has signs and symptoms due to visceral metastasis. Breast cancer progresses relatively rapidly, and the patient’s laboratory findings assess the presence of severe multi-organ dysfunction. Visceral crisis is mainly seen in hormone receptor-positive patients with advanced breast cancer. In hormone receptor-positive patients with advanced breast cancer, once visceral crisis occurs, the first-line preferred treatment option cannot be endocrine therapy, but rather, chemotherapy and other therapies are chosen to aggressively fight against the tumor, improve the patient’s symptoms, and rapidly control the disease. Once the hormone receptor-positive advanced breast cancer patients develop visceral crisis, it often suggests a poor prognosis.
