Ultrasound Bone Densitometry is radiation free and the main principle of this type of test is to evaluate the density of bone using the degree of reflection of ultrasound in different tissues of the body. These tests are non-invasive, very safe, and radiation-free. The equipment required for this type of test is very inexpensive, small, and portable, making it suitable for epidemiological screening, i.e., a large, rapid examination of a population to assess the presence of osteoporosis in that population. However, this test has advantages and disadvantages, the disadvantage is that the accuracy is not particularly high. In clinical practice, the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry method is generally used to evaluate the bone density of patients. Therefore, if a patient has an ultrasound-type test that suggests osteoporosis, he or she needs to go to the hospital for further X-ray tests to clarify the presence of osteoporosis and how much osteoporosis there is.
