What’s this bulge in the upper center of the chest?

A bulge above the middle of the forehead may be a normal bony prominence, or it may be caused by pathological factors such as bony hyperplasia, subcutaneous lesions of the chest wall, thoracic deformity and so on. 1. Normal bony protuberance: above the middle of the sternum, there is a sternal angle connecting the sternal body and the sternal handle, and the second rib cartilage is flat, especially for people with thin subcutaneous fat and thinness, you can see an obvious bulge above the middle of the sternum. 2. Pathologic factors (1) Bone hyperplasia: if there is old fracture of the sternum, the fracture end may have excessive growth of bone crust, causing bone hyperplasia, forming a bony swelling that protrudes from the skin surface, which is manifested as a bulge above the middle of the chest. (2) Subcutaneous lesions of chest wall: such as subcutaneous fibroma, lipoma, sebaceous cysts, etc. can cause the bulge above the middle of the chest, and if secondary infection and inflammation stimulation can also cause local redness, swelling, pain and other symptoms. (3) Thoracic deformity: such as severe malnutrition caused by rickets can be secondary to thoracic deformity, resulting in chicken chest, which can be manifested as a bulge above the middle of the chest protruding forward like a bulge. If there is a bulge above the middle of the chest, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time to find out the specific cause and then actively treat it to avoid delaying the condition.
