High neutrophil counts can be due to both physiologic and pathologic causes, such as pregnancy and infections.
Neutrophil count is among the highest percentage of white blood cells and plays a generally significant role in acute infections, including phagocytosis and killing of some viruses and bacteria such as Plasmodium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Cryptococcus, and so on.
The normal value of the proportion of neutrophil count is 0.4 to 0.75 (40% to 75%), and the increase is mainly seen in the early stage of inflammation, after major surgeries and early stage of all kinds of trauma, all kinds of acute infectious diseases, burns, infectious diseases, chronic granulocytic leukemia, diphtheria, etc., and also seen in pregnancy and long-term smoking.
High neutrophil count may also have other causes, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time, improve the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and then give targeted treatment or therapy.
