Does a decrease in liver size necessarily mean cirrhosis?

Reduced liver size is not necessarily cirrhosis. Hepatocellular carcinoma, severe hepatitis, etc. may lead to reduced liver volume. 1. Hepatocellular carcinoma: Hepatocellular carcinoma is generally characterized by increased liver volume, but in advanced stage of hepatocellular carcinoma, liver function is weakened, liver cells are severely damaged, and liver volume is reduced. 2. Advanced cirrhosis: Early manifestation of cirrhosis is usually enlargement of liver, weight increase, normal or slightly hard texture. In the advanced stage of cirrhosis, the liver atrophies and the texture becomes hard, resulting in the reduction of liver volume. 3. Severe hepatitis: ordinary hepatitis manifests as enlarged liver, but severe hepatitis manifests as obvious reduction in volume by naked eye. Patients are advised to go to the hospital to check out the specific cause of liver shrinkage and cooperate with doctors for active treatment.
