Phenobarbital used in children may be mostly seen for sedation or anticonvulsant, and even sometimes for epilepsy as well as hyperbilirubinemia. The dosage of the drug varies in different diseases, and it must be remembered that the medication should be individualized. For children with long-term use of the drug, the blood drug concentration should be controlled at 15-40 mg/L. If used for sedation, a dosage of 2 mg per kg of body weight, 2-3 times a day is sufficient. If used for anticonvulsant or antiepileptic, 3-5mg per kg of body weight each time, usually 2-3 times a day. For hyperbilirubinemia, 5-8mg per kg body weight, divided doses are required. For hyperbilirubinemia, clear results are usually seen at 3-7 days.
