There is no best match for Xia Gu Cao. Xia Gu Cao can be used with Xuan Shen and Kun Bu to treat gall tumors (the equivalent of thyroid tumors) and other things. Xia Gu Cao is pungent, bitter and cold in nature, and belongs to the liver and gallbladder meridians. It has the efficacy of clearing the liver and diarrhea (removing liver fire), brightening the eyes, dispersing knots and eliminating swelling, and can be used for night pain in the eyeballs, headache and dizziness, and swelling and pain in the eyeballs. It is often used together with chrysanthemum, mulberry leaf, cassia seed and other liver clearing and eye-opening (clearing liver fire to promote vision recovery) medicines to treat the eye redness and swelling of liver fire inflammation. It is also used for gall tumors, scrofula (mainly refers to cervical lymph node tuberculosis), breast fetish (painful lumps in the breast, closely related to menstrual cycle and emotional changes, equivalent to breast hyperplasia), and breast carbuncle. Combined with seaweed, zhebeimu and xuan shen, it is used to treat scrofula in which the liver depresses and transforms into fire (the impassability of the liver’s qi leads to the production of fire-heat and evil qi), and phlegm-heat and fire; it is often used in the same way as kunbu and xuan shen to treat gall tumors. It is also used together with Zhe Bei Mu, Dandelion and Chai Hu for breast fetish, breast carbuncle and breast distension. This product should be used with caution for people with weak spleen and stomach, and the adverse reactions are not clear.
