What is the recurrence rate of stage IIb cervical cancer?

There are no exact data on the recurrence rate of stage IIb cervical cancer, and whether recurrence occurs and when it occurs varies from person to person. Stage IIb cervical cancer means that the cancer has gone beyond the cervix, with paravaginal infiltration but has not reached the pelvic wall. Stage IIb cervical cancer has a certain chance of recurrence after treatment, and the likelihood of recurrence is related to various factors such as the type of pathology and the patient’s physical condition. Not all will recur and it is not possible to predict when recurrence will occur. Therefore, it is currently recommended that patients with stage IIb should have a follow-up examination 3-6 months after treatment to complete a whole-body MRI or CT examination to evaluate the control of pelvic tumors, and if necessary, to undergo PET-CT, cervical or vaginal cytology and other related examinations, and should be followed up continuously for 5 years after treatment, and then a definite plan of follow-up should be made according to the patient’s condition. It is recommended to seek timely and standardized diagnosis and treatment when necessary.
