Methods of gallstone removal

Gallstones do not promote stone removal, and usually those with symptoms need to be treated surgically to resolve the presence of stones, and medications need to be applied as an adjunctive therapy. Asymptomatic patients do not require special treatment, but need to improve their lifestyle and undergo regular checkups. Usually, gallstones are not recommended to be treated with lithotripsy, mainly because they may cause biliary obstruction. Clinically, for patients with abdominal pain, jaundice, high fever and other symptoms of gallstones, we need to consider surgery as soon as possible to resolve the presence of stones, a common surgical procedure is minimally invasive laparoscopic cholecystectomy. If there are stones in the lower bile duct with bile duct stenosis, endoscopic duodenal papillotomy should be considered. Secondly, patients need to follow the doctor’s instructions to apply ursodeoxycholic acid tablets and other choleretic drugs, which can promote the discharge of bile and control inflammation. If the patient is asymptomatic, there is no need for special treatment, but to improve the lifestyle, regular, light diet, adhere to the exercise, and need to be regularly reviewed. Patients with gallstones need to go to the hospital in time, strengthen their daily life management and cooperate with doctors for active treatment.
