How to treat gallbladder cancer in Chinese medicine? Gallbladder cancer occurs at the bottom of the neck, followed by the body less often. Histologically, adenocarcinoma accounts for 80%, undifferentiated carcinoma accounts for 6%, squamous carcinoma accounts for 3%, and mixed carcinoma accounts for 1%. Gallbladder cancer can directly infiltrate the surrounding organs, and can also be metastasized through lymphatic channels, blood circulation, nerves and bile ducts, and planted in the abdominal cavity. Distant metastasis can occur in patients with advanced stage, but it usually occurs later and less frequently. Gallbladder cancer can be categorized into mass type and invasive type. Adenocarcinoma is the main pathological tissue type, accounting for about 80%~90% of undifferentiated carcinoma about 10%. Squamous carcinoma and squamous adenocarcinoma are 5%~10%. Gallbladder cancer is mainly metastasized through lymph, and 25%~75% of the cancerous tumors have been found to have lymphatic metastasis at the time of surgery; more than half of the cancerous tumors can be directly disseminated to the neighboring organs, and the frequency of their occurrence is the liver, bile duct, pancreas, gastroduodenum, omentum, colon, and abdominal wall in the order of their occurrence; and less than 1/5 of them can be disseminated by bloodstream. Chinese medicine believes that tumors are a systemic disease, which “the whole body is virtual, and the local area is real” from the holistic viewpoint. “Tumor development lies in the function of internal organs. The occurrence of tumor lies in the disorder of internal organs’ function, therefore, TCM treatment is not only limited to shrinking the mass and eliminating the tumor cells itself, but also from adjusting the whole body with coordinated functions of internal organs. In comparison, in Western medical treatment, doctors and patients mostly consider whether the tumor can be cut off, whether the tumor can be reduced after chemotherapy or radiotherapy, etc., while whether the quality of life of patients can be improved and whether the survival period can be prolonged is seldom taken into account. As a result, it is not uncommon that patients’ quality of life is seriously impaired and even die prematurely even though the recent therapeutic effect is good. By regulating the physiological functions of yin and yang, qi and blood, and internal organs and meridians of the human body, TCM treatment can remove the soil environment for tumor development, improve the symptoms, enhance the quality of life, and improve the fatigue-free function of the organism, so as to achieve the purpose of strengthening the body, getting rid of the disease and evil spirits, inhibiting the development of the tumor, alleviating the condition, and prolonging the period of survival.
