Anemia is defined as a low number of red blood cells in the blood and a lower than normal concentration of hemoglobin (hemoglobin). According to the World Health Organization, about 20% of the world’s population has different degrees of anemia. The probability of anemia in China is higher than that in western countries, and among those who suffer from anemia, women are significantly higher than men. Red blood cells play an extremely important role in maintaining life activities and physical and mental health. The oxygen required by the body’s systems and tissues is mainly transported by the red blood cells. Therefore, the symptoms of anemia are a series of symptoms caused by the lack of oxygen, insufficient energy and low metabolic activity of the body’s system tissues. For example, lack of oxygen in the brain tissue due to anemia can cause dizziness, headache, fatigue, tinnitus, blurred vision, lack of concentration, insomnia and memory loss; lack of oxygen in the gastrointestinal tract can cause loss of appetite, bloating, nausea and constipation; lack of oxygen in the heart can cause panic and shortness of breath after activity; severe and long-term anemia can cause heart enlargement and heart failure. Oxygen deficiency in the reproductive system, mainly in women, is the reduction of ovarian function, which affects the secretion of female hormones and can show menstrual irregularities. According to relevant research results, a normal adult has about five liters of blood, with about four million red blood cells per milliliter of blood, and the life span of red blood cells is about 120 days. According to the above data, there are 16 billion red blood cells per day in normal adults. In other words, 16 billion new red blood cells have to be generated every day in normal adults to maintain the balance of red blood cell count. If the normal balance of red blood cell count cannot be maintained due to excessive death of red blood cells, loss of red blood cells, or reduction of red blood cell production for various reasons, anemia will occur.
