Appendiceal location

The appendix is located in the right iliac fossa, which is the right lower abdomen, and has an earthworm shape with a length of 2-20 cm, usually 6-8 cm, and a diameter of 0.5-0.7 cm. The appendix is a pancreatic tubular organ with a blind distal end and a proximal opening to the cecum, located 2-3 cm below the ileocecal valve. When blood flow is impaired, the appendix is susceptible to necrosis, and the appendiceal veins are accompanied by the appendiceal arteries and eventually flow back into the portal vein, which can cause portal phlebitis and bacterial liver abscess when the appendix becomes inflamed. In acute appendicitis, the typical clinical presentation is pain in the upper and middle abdomen, which after a few hours moves to the umbilicus and then to the right lower abdomen. The duration of this process depends on the development of the lesion and the location of the appendix, and 70-80% of patients have the typical features of metastatic abdominal pain.
