The pH in urine is an important indicator of the acidity or alkalinity of urine, which is usually around 6.5 and fluctuates from about 4.5-8. The pH of urine is affected by disease, medication, diet and pregnancy. Urine is usually acidic in patients who eat a meat-based diet and alkaline in vegetarians. In the case of frequent vomiting, diarrhea, and low fluid levels, the pH of the urine will be high and will return to normal when the cause of the illness is removed in a timely manner. For pregnant women, the pH will be low due to the increase in blood volume caused by pregnancy. If there is kidney disease, such as acidosis, the pH will also increase, and the primary cause needs to be treated promptly. Increased urinary pH is common in alkalosis, urinary retention, bladder inflammation and renal tubular acidosis. When urinary pH is high, further examination is needed to clarify the cause of the disease, so that a reasonable treatment plan can be chosen and timely treatment can be provided.
