What is otitis externa?

Otitis externa is usually a skin metaplasia caused by bacterial and fungal infections. This disease is most common in spring and autumn and can be divided into two types: acute otitis externa and chronic otitis externa. The common pathogens that cause otitis externa include streptococcus, Aspergillus, and Staphylococcus aureus. Inflammation of the external auditory canal can occur if the local environment is altered, such as prolonged skin immersion, continuous stimulation of the external auditory canal by secretions, or a decrease in the immunity of the body. In acute otitis externa, the main symptom is pain and a burning sensation in the ear at the beginning of the disease, and the pain becomes more intense as the disease develops, and the secretion of secretions becomes more and more frequent. In the treatment of otitis externa, the first step is to clean the external ear canal, ensure local cleanliness and dryness and smooth drainage, choose sensitive antibiotics, and apply systemic antibiotics or analgesics if the condition of the external ear canal is very serious. In preventing the occurrence of otitis externa, several methods can be used: avoid bad ear digging habits, avoid swimming in dirty water and avoid water entering the external ear canal.
