Pain on seeing bright light in the eye is a sign of corneal irritation because the cornea is rich in nerves, and bright light is an exogenous stimulus that can produce pain. This condition is considered a corneal foreign body, or keratitis. In addition, visual fatigue and dry eye may also present similar symptoms. Conjunctival congestion is evident in the eyes, and no corneal abnormality is seen, which is considered to be caused by acute conjunctivitis. This condition is recommended to be treated with antibiotic eye drops, as well as antibiotic eye ointment. If there is a foreign body in the conjunctiva or on the cornea after routine ophthalmologic examination, it is necessary to rinse the conjunctival sac in time, or to perform corneal foreign body removal surgery after the administration of surface anesthetic eye drops. If keratitis is found to be the cause, antibiotic eye drops or antiviral eye drops should be considered for symptomatic treatment. In addition, visual fatigue, dry eye, or glaucoma should be ruled out.
