Fire is a folk saying, often manifested by symptoms such as mouth ulcers, bad breath and yellow urine. When taken correctly, Chuanxiong does not usually cause fire; if used for a long period of time or in large quantities, symptoms of fire may occur. Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong is effective in promoting blood circulation, dispelling wind and relieving pain (dissipating wind evil and relieving pain in the muscles and bones). It is used for chest paralysis (stuffy pain in the chest), heart pain, stabbing pain in the chest and ribs, swelling and pain in bruises, irregular menstruation, menstrual pain, obstruction of menstruation, abdominal pain in the abdomen, headache, etc. It is also used to relieve pain in the chest and ribs. Chuanxiong should not be used in pregnant women, those suffering from yin deficiency (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, resulting in hyperactive fire), excessive sweating, or those suffering from qi deficiency and bleeding. If Chuanxiong is to be used, it must be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
