The causes of glaucoma depend on the type of glaucoma, such as primary open angle glaucoma where the resistance to aqueous humor outflow increases, primary closed angle glaucoma where the narrow angle of the aperture closes and becomes blocked, secondary glaucoma secondary to trauma or other diseases or medications, and pediatric glaucoma due to developmental abnormalities. 1. Primary open-angle glaucoma: the patient’s anterior chamber angle is normal and open in appearance. If the aqueous humor drainage system at the trabecular meshwork is diseased, the resistance of aqueous humor flow will increase, which will lead to an increase in intraocular pressure and cause glaucoma. 2. Primary closed-angle glaucoma: patients usually have abnormal anatomical structure, shallow anterior chamber, narrow angle of the atrium, and thick lens. Glaucoma can be further induced by emotional fluctuation, excessive fatigue, excessive close eye use, dark room environment or systemic diseases. 3. Secondary glaucoma: due to trauma or systemic diseases, it may also be caused by irrational use of medication, which affects the normal aqueous humor circulation and leads to elevated intraocular pressure. 4. Childhood glaucoma: Glaucoma is usually caused by abnormal development of the atrial angle tissue of the eyeball during the embryonic and developmental stages of the child. No matter which cause of glaucoma, you should consult a doctor in time and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment, so as to avoid delaying the condition and producing adverse consequences.
