Mature erythrocyte size variation refers to an increase in the mean volume distribution width of the erythrocytes, which is common in anemia, while the absence of nucleated erythrocytes refers to the fact that all erythrocytes are in a mature state.
The normal value for the mean volume distribution width of red blood cells is usually 11% to 15%, and if there is an increase, the most common cause is iron deficiency anemia or megaloblastic anemia.
The absence of nucleated erythrocytes may be a normal mature erythrocyte, or it may be a disorder of nucleus synthesis. The main raw materials for the nucleus of the erythrocyte are folic acid and vitamin B₁₂, and if there is a deficiency of folic acid and vitamin B₂₂ in the body, it may lead to a disorder of the erythrocyte’s development, which will lead to a disorder of nucleus synthesis, which is mainly seen in megaloblastic anemia.
Therefore, if the mature red blood cells are different in size and no nucleated red blood cells are seen, further examination should be conducted to determine the cause, so as not to delay the condition.
