The correct recipe for Bao Yuan Qing Shi Tang

The composition of Bao Yuan Qing Shi Tang is generally 40 grams of raw ochre, 25 grams of ginseng, 30 grams each of raw fructus gorgonian, raw yam and raw white peony, 10 grams of fried burdock and 7.5 grams of licorice. However, the medication should be added or subtracted by the doctor according to the condition, and should not be used on one’s own. In this formula, ochre is used to subdue the rebellious Qi, stop bleeding and cool the blood; Gorgon fruit astringes the Stomach Qi and prevents it from going upward; Chinese yam nourishes the Stomach Yin and subdues the rebellious Qi; Paeonia lactiflora nourishes the Blood and calms the Liver rebellious Qi; Burdock seed clears the phlegm and subdues the rebellious Qi, so that the rebellious Qi can be turned to go down. Codonopsis replenishes the middle Jiao and benefits Qi (treating Qi deficiency by replenishing the spleen); licorice harmonizes the medicinal properties. These herbs work together to benefit the qi, strengthen the spleen, lower the rebellious qi and harmonize the stomach. Bao Yuan Qing Shi Tang is mainly used in treating vomiting of blood and nosebleed, in which the patient suffers from deficiency of the lower vital essence (commonly due to deficiency of the kidneys), deficiency of the middle qi (weak qi in the spleen and stomach), upward reversal of the gastric qi (the gastric qi rises instead of descends), and the blood is vomited out with the qi upward, or flows out of the nose through the yangmings meridian. This formula should not be used by people with a cold constitution. Symptoms include lack of warmth in the limbs, poor mental health, scanty stools and pale-colored urine. If uncomfortable symptoms occur, please consult a doctor in time, do not use medicine blindly to avoid adverse consequences.
