Systemic medications should be given orally to treat hemangiomas in babies, which are the most common tumors in infancy and childhood. There are more treatment options available, including the use of drugs: prednisone or paxillin and injections of other drugs, as well as laser, cryotherapy, surgery or isotope therapy. However, since 2008, it was accidentally discovered that propranolol (a beta-blocker) can inhibit the growth of infantile hemangiomas and induce their regression. Because of its precise efficacy, rapid onset of action, and high safety, propranolol has replaced glucocorticoids as the first line of medication for proliferating infantile blood vessels in recent years. Currently, this drug has been used to treat hemangiomas for about 10 years, proving its effectiveness and safety.
