The glucose tolerance test involves taking glucose water by mouth and checking blood glucose and insulin c-peptide half an hour, one hour, two hours and three hours after drinking the sugar water. For adults with fasting blood glucose greater than or equal to 7.0 mmol/L and glucose tolerance two-hour blood glucose greater than or equal to 11.1 mmol/L with typical diabetic symptoms, a diagnosis of diabetes may be considered.
