Surgery for secondary foramen ovale type of atrial septal defect mainly refers to traditional median open thoracotomy under patch repair under extracorporeal circulation in patients with secondary atrial septal defect. Atrial septal defects are categorized into primary foramen ovale type and secondary foramen ovale type, which are differently positioned after birth due to the presence of atrial septal defects in the first and second atrial septum during embryonic development. Primary foramen ovale type atrial septal defects are not amenable to atrial septal defect closure surgery and require open surgery under surgical maneuvers to achieve clinical cure. Treatment of secondary foramen ovale type atrial septal defects should be based on the size and location of the atrial septal defect. In patients with small atrial septal defects, interventional closure can be considered for secondary foramen ovale-type atrial septal defects that are partially located in the central portion. If the patient has a large atrial septal defect or combined with other deformity defects, surgical treatment is preferred, which can be performed through median incision, axillary, endoscopy and other methods of small incisions. In daily life, patients should quit smoking and drinking, eat less spicy and stimulating food, actively improve their life pattern, and consult a doctor if they have any uncomfortable symptoms.
