Gastric squamous carcinoma is a rare type of gastric cancer, accounting for only 0.04%-0.7% of all gastric cancers. It is mostly formed by squamification of gastric mucosal epithelium on the basis of chronic inflammation and is mostly seen in men. Although the incidence of gastric squamous carcinoma is low, the 5-year survival rate of gastric squamous carcinoma is low, and the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma should be paid attention to. Currently, surgery is more commonly used in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma, followed by radiotherapy and traditional Chinese medicine is also widely used in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma. Therefore, surgery in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma should be adopted in a positive manner. As long as the patient’s general condition allows and there is no distant metastasis, surgery by dissection should be performed. There are three main surgical methods used in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma: radical resection, palliative resection and short-circuit surgery. Radical resection is a surgical procedure that removes the primary lesion of gastric squamous carcinoma, together with part of the tissue and the corresponding regional lymph nodes. Palliative resection is a surgical procedure to remove a localized lesion in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma for patients who cannot undergo radical resection. Short-circuit surgery is a method to remove gastric squamous carcinoma if it cannot be resected and there is pyloric obstruction, so that the obstruction can be removed and the patient can eat to improve general nutrition and create conditions to receive other drugs for the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma. Generally speaking, radical resection is preferred in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma to eliminate the lesion to the greatest extent. If the cancer of gastric squamous carcinoma is larger than the scope of radical resection, but it is possible to remove the cancer locally, palliative resection can be performed in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma as long as the patient’s general condition permits. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy The sensitivity of gastric squamous carcinoma to radiotherapy and chemotherapy is lower than that of gastric adenocarcinoma, so radiotherapy and chemotherapy are less used in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma and are mostly used for palliative treatment of advanced gastric squamous carcinoma patients. Chemical drugs that are slightly useful in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma include 5-fluorouracil, furanofurouracil and ufadroxil. Radiation therapy, on the other hand, may provide some relief of symptoms of portal obstruction and alleviate chronic bleeding in unresectable lesions. Since chemotherapy and radiotherapy are more damaging to the body of patients with gastric squamous carcinoma, they usually need to be combined with traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma to achieve the effect of increasing efficiency and reducing toxicity. Although various treatment methods of Western medicine have a direct effect on the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma, the disadvantage of causing harm to patients with gastric squamous carcinoma still exists, which will bring difficulties to the subsequent treatment of patients with gastric squamous carcinoma. With the continuous improvement of TCM theory, more and more medical experts are aware of the advantages of combining Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma. According to TCM, gastric squamous carcinoma belongs to the categories of “regurgitation”, “gastric pain”, “choking”, “accumulation” and “fulang”. “Fuliang”, etc. On the one hand, it is caused by the weakness of the body’s vital energy, especially the weakness of the spleen and stomach, and on the other hand, it is caused by long-term uncontrolled diet and unrestrained emotion, which gradually forms phlegm and fire, and stagnation of blood and Qi. The treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma in TCM is based on supporting the root and eliminating the evil and attacking the poison. The function of strengthening the root is to adjust the body and improve the patient’s immunity, while eliminating the evil includes softening and dispersing the knots, dispelling phlegm and dampness, clearing heat and detoxifying blood and activating blood stasis, which directly inhibits the gastric squamous cancer cells and improves the microcirculation of tumor tissues, so that the anti-cancer drugs and immune active cells can penetrate into the tumor and kill the tumor cells. In general, the 5-year survival rate of gastric squamous carcinoma after surgery is low, and it is not sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In the treatment of gastric squamous carcinoma, an integrated mode combining Chinese and Western medicine should be used, which is more effective than a single method.
