Can rectal cancer recurrence be cured?

It is very difficult to cure rectal cancer after recurrence, but the survival period of patients can be prolonged through active treatment. Clinically, patients with recurrence of rectal cancer are generally given individualized anti-tumor treatment strategies for different disease development, for example, patients with local recurrence can be given the treatment plan of radical surgery again, and postoperative anti-tumor treatments such as adjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy are given. If the recurrent patients are accompanied by metastasis in many parts of the body, it means that the patients’ staging is late, and there are difficulties in radical surgery, so they can only be treated with comprehensive treatment such as targeted therapy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, etc. Although the possibility of completely curing recurrent rectal cancer is relatively low, patients with effective treatment can get prolonged survival time.
