Pilot’s syndrome, also known as small mandibular-hypoglossal syndrome, is a congenital disorder.
Pilot’s syndrome is a developmental abnormality caused by exposure to harmful and toxic substances during pregnancy or chromosomal abnormalities. It is characterized by wide eye spacing, cleft palate, small jaws, and short tongues, and newborns are prone to respiratory distress, cyanosis, and swallowing abnormalities after birth, which can result in aspiration and cause pneumonia.
Newborns should be operated as early as possible to prevent respiratory injury caused by the impact on brain development, can be surgically treated to restore chewing function and speaking function.
It is recommended to take obstetric checkups on time during pregnancy. 4D ultrasound can measure the size of the mandible, which can be used for early detection of abnormalities, and if there are any abnormalities, they need to be treated actively after birth, following the doctor’s instructions.
