Pre-menopausal women have very little vaginal discharge at this time due to low hormone levels in their bodies. The amount of leukorrhea produced is drastically reduced, especially when compared to the childbearing age. This is due to going through menopause and is not an abnormal condition. Some women during this time are prone to vaginitis because of the low estrogen levels in their bodies, which can lead to a decrease in vaginal defenses. If there is vaginitis, women will feel yellowish and have a fishy odor, and need to use medication to improve the symptoms. Since such symptoms are caused by a decrease in estrogen, they are treated clinically with estrogen creams.
