With the rising concern for our own nutrition, the number of visits and consultations in the Nutrition Department is increasing. Especially at the time of the clinic, many people like to come to the nutrition department to consult about their daily diet, how to eat more reasonably and how to eat healthier. However, as a clinical department, the nutrition department also needs patients to have certain preparation before visiting the clinic. For example, your height and weight, past medical history, etc. If you are suffering from diabetes, hypertension and other chronic diseases, it is best to provide recent laboratory tests for our nutrition physicians to refer to. Some patients may not quite understand and think that a department that studies how to eat needs to be so troublesome. I tell you what diseases I have, you tell me what to eat and that’s it? Unfortunately, the work of the nutrition department is not that simple. Take a simple example of diabetes, a diabetic patient, we first need to understand his height and weight and the basic situation. Imagine a thin diabetic patient and an obese diabetic patient, the energy requirements must be different, right? Even if both patients are obese, the energy required for a height of 3750px and 4500px must be different, right? Even if they are both obese and 4000px tall, the energy requirements are still different for different ages, right? In addition, the presence of other diseases, such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia, the presence of complications, the presence of urine sugar and ketone bodies, the smooth control of blood sugar, etc., all affect the energy ratios and diet matching of the final recipe. Therefore, in the face of a patient who comes to consult, the first thing we need to understand in the nutrition department is no different from the general clinical departments, and even more detailed and in-depth. It is not enough to understand this, a good diet plan must be different from the individual. There is no best diet plan, only the most suitable diet plan for yourself. Only the diet plan that is suitable for you can be accepted by the patient to the greatest extent, and only after it is accepted, it is possible to be implemented. And the diet plan that can be properly implemented is the nutritional treatment plan that can have a therapeutic effect. Therefore, after we understand the basic disease condition of the patient, we also need to understand the daily diet of the patient. Since many people don’t know where to start with their diet, this is often the part of the dietetic consultation session that takes the most time and gets the least accurate information. In view of these points, I suggest that before coming to the nutrition department, you should prepare as follows: 1. (If it is an online consultation, you also need to provide your age, gender, and whether you are in a special period, such as: pregnancy, lactation, etc.) 2. The disease you are suffering from. If you have a disease that requires long-term monitoring, such as diabetes, hypertension, etc., please provide your recent blood glucose and blood pressure. 3. Recent laboratory tests and checklists. It is better to have kidney function, liver function and, if necessary, documents of ultrasound, ECG, chest X-ray and other auxiliary examinations. In the case of cancer or post-surgery patients, it is best to also have relevant medical records, etc. 4. Recent diary of diet. It contains the content of the food consumed daily, and if available, the amount of each food consumed can be recorded. This will not only save your time in the dietetic department, but also allow our dietitians to understand your basic situation, so that they can better formulate diet plans and dietary recommendations for you.
