How does breast cancer surgery work?

Breast cancer surgery refers to surgical operations, which include breast preservation surgery, elective mastectomy, radical and extended radical surgery, modified radical surgery and so on.
1. Breast preservation surgery: it is more suitable for early stage breast cancer patients, and if there is a demand for breast preservation, breast preservation surgery can be chosen as the treatment, applicable to the tumor with the maximum diameter of greater than or equal to 3 cm, and the scope of surgical excision is the tumor or the tissues around the tumor of 1-2 cm.
2. Total mastectomy: the scope of surgical excision is the whole breast, including the tail of the axilla and the pectoralis major muscle fascia, which is more suitable for micro carcinoma, carcinoma in situ and old and weak people.
3. Radical and extended radical surgery: the scope of radical surgery includes this breast, pectoralis major and minor muscles, axilla and all lymph nodes. Extended radical surgery, in addition to the above scope, also need to remove the thoracic arteries and veins and surrounding lymph nodes.
4. Modified radical surgery: compared with radical surgery, the difference mainly lies in whether or not to remove the pectoralis major and minor muscles, because the surgery retains the pectoral muscles, so the postoperative appearance is good, and it is a commonly used surgical plan at present.
It is recommended that patients should actively cooperate with doctors to choose surgery and other auxiliary treatments according to their own conditions to improve the prognosis after the appearance of breast cancer.
