Low back pain is known as lumbago in Chinese medicine, and prescriptions for treating lumbago include Gan Jiang Ling Jiao Tang, Jia Wei Er Miao San, Zuo Gui Wan, Yu Gui Wan, and Body Pain and Blood Stasis Expelling Tang.
1. Gan Jiang Ling Jiao Tang: composed of dried ginger, licorice, poria, atractylodes, it can treat cold and dampness syndrome of lumbago, which is characterized by cold pain in the waist, aggravated by cold and rainy days, with pale tongue, whitish greasy moss, and sunken pulse.
2. Yi Miao San: composed of Huang Bai, Cang Zhu, Fang Ji, Dioscorea villosa, Cortex Poriae, Angelica sinensis, and Tortoise Plate, it can treat damp-heat syndrome of lumbar pain, with symptoms of lumbar pain that is severe and hot, aggravated by summer dampness and cloudy and rainy weather, with bitter taste and irritable heat in the mouth (irritable and sultry), short and reddish urination (small amount of urination, dark yellow in color), yellowish and greasy moss, and number of strings in the pulse.
3. Zuo Gui Wan: composed of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Chinese Yam, Fructus Lycii, Gelatinum Tortoise, Gelatinum Deer Antler, Cuscuta Cuscuta, and Sichuan Cowslip, can be used for lumbago with kidney yin deficiency, which is characterized by ligamentous pain in lumbar area, aching, weakness, dryness of mouth and pharynx, flushed face, warmth of the hands, feet, and heart, red tongue with little moss, and fine pulse (the pulse is becoming narrower and finer, and the rate is faster).
4. Right Angelica Pill: composed of Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Cinnamomum Cassia, Radix et Rhizoma Gastrodiae, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparatae, Cornus Officinalis, Fructus Lycii, Rhizoma Coptidis, Semen Cuscutae, Rhizoma Eucommiae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, it can be used for treating the symptoms of Kidney Yang Deficiency such as hidden pain in the lower back, coldness, warmth and pressure, fear of cold and cold limbs, pale tongue, and thin, feeble pulse.
