Hypertension can be categorized into grades I, II, and III based on the values of systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure; there is no grade IV.
Hypertension is defined as the measurement of blood pressure in the brachial artery area of the upper arm during quiet rest and sitting position, which generally needs to be measured three times not on the same day, and the values of systolic blood pressure are all ≥140mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure are all ≥90mmHg.
1. Grade 1 hypertension: Based on the diagnosis of hypertension, the systolic blood pressure is between 140-159mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure is between 90-99mmHg.
2. Grade 2 hypertension: Based on the diagnosis of hypertension, the systolic blood pressure is between 160~179mmHg and/or the diastolic blood pressure is between 100~109mmHg.
3. Grade 3 hypertension: Based on the diagnosis of hypertension, the blood pressure is ≥180mmHg systolic and/or ≥110mmHg diastolic.
