Whether or not unequal pupil size in children is important is related to the cause of the disease; it is usually important if it is caused by trauma or glaucoma, and it is not important if it is caused by dilating medication.
Children with unequal pupil size is related to the following factors:
1. eye trauma: such as the pupil sphincter, the movable eye nerve and other injuries can lead to dilation of the pupil, the phenomenon of different sizes. If the trauma causes temporary dilatation of the pupil sphincter, it can be recovered after treatment, but if the trauma is serious enough to cause sphincter tearing, it is more serious and can be treated with surgery according to the condition.
2. Glaucoma: related to optic nerve damage, high intraocular pressure, blurred vision and other symptoms can occur, and in acute episodes, the pupil can be dilated and different sizes. The condition is usually complicated and serious. Drugs to lower intraocular pressure can be given, and surgery can be performed if necessary.
3. Pupil dilating drugs: such as atropine sulfate and other pupil dilating drugs after the application of the pupil can be changed, the drug metabolism can be returned to normal, without treatment, so generally not serious.
Children with unequal pupil size may also be caused by cerebral hemorrhage, brain tumors, optic neuritis, it is recommended to improve the relevant examination and standardized treatment after a clear diagnosis.
