White peony nourishes blood and astringes yin, softens the liver and relieves pain (treating pain caused by deficiency of liver yin and liver blood), and calms liver yang; Chinese yam has the effects of benefiting qi and nourishing yin, tonifying the spleen, lungs and kidneys, and consolidating essence to stop leucorrhoea; and licorice has the effects of benefiting qi and tonifying the middle, moistening the lungs to stop coughing, and easing the urgency and relieving pain (relieving urgent pain symptoms).
Bai Shao: Indications include deficiency of liver and blood, irregular menstruation, pain in the chest and ribs, pain in the epigastrium (stomach and abdomen), pain in the contractures of the limbs, hyperactivity of liver yang (excessive liver yang causing dizziness, dizziness and headache), and dizziness and headache. It should not be used in conjunction with Veratrum.
Huaishan: treating spleen deficiency with little food, fatigue, loose stools (thin and unformed feces) and diarrhea, lung deficiency with asthma and cough, kidney deficiency with spermatorrhea, frequent urination under the belt, internal heat and thirst (internal heat accompanied by symptoms of overeating, drinking and urinating). Dampness in the center of fullness (dampness is too heavy to cause fullness and discomfort in the spleen and stomach) or solid evil, stagnation is prohibited.
Licorice: treats spleen deficiency and lethargy, heart deficiency and palpitation, cough and asthma, carbuncle and gangrene (a kind of poisonous sores, acute suppurative disease occurring on the surface of the body, limbs, and internal organs) laryngeal paralysis (redness, swelling and pain in pharynx, or dryness, foreign body sensation, or itchy throat discomfort and difficulty in swallowing), and medicinal and dietary poisonings. It should not be used with seaweed, Euphorbia, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Coriandrum sativum. Not to be taken in large quantities or in small quantities for a long period of time.
