What parts of bile duct cancer are removed

The bile duct is divided into three segments, namely upper bile duct, middle bile duct and lower bile duct. The site of bile duct cancer surgery is related to the location of the tumor. 1. Upper and middle bile ducts: If the tumor is located in the upper and middle bile ducts and does not involve the surrounding organs, partial bile duct resection can be performed first, followed by bile duct jejunostomy. 2. Lower bile ducts: For the treatment of lower bile duct tumor, pancreaticoduodenectomy should be performed first. During the operation, the distal end of the bile duct, the distal end of the gastric body and the duodenum of the head of the pancreas should be removed, followed by pancreatic-enteric anastomosis, biliary-enteric anastomosis, as well as gastrointestinal anastomosis and intestinal-enteric anastomosis; 3. Bile duct anastomosis or hepatobiliary or biliary intestinal anastomosis. Patients with cholangiocarcinoma have a poor prognosis and high mortality rate, and only a small percentage of early-stage patients may achieve clinical cure. Therefore, after surgical treatment, patients should pay attention to timely review, usually at 1 month after surgery, and adjust the treatment plan if necessary, so as to improve the survival cycle and quality of life.
